More Information on Scout Camp

We're excited to have 4 scouts at this summer camp!  It will be a life changing experience in which lots of growth will occur.  There will be some down time and lots of pondering time.  Sometimes kids get lonely for their parents and home so we encourage you to come visit them on Thursday for family day.  They'll have lots of fun but they'll also get super tired All Scouts and Leaders attending camp must have a physical examination before coming to camp and must have the proper medical form completed. The examination must be made by a licensed physician. Be sure to use the official BSA Annual Health and Medical Form. One is provided for you in this guideprobably a little emotional sometimes too.  It's all part of the process of them maturing and learning skills that will help them to be self reliant.  Our scouts will bond on the trip but they'll also get on each others nerves a bit.  They'll become like siblings in a way so we try to help them communicate and deal with problems the way adults should act.

Scouts is HARD!  It's hard for scouts.  It's hard for leaders.  It's supposed to be that way because it is the best mechanism for growing into a productive adult that contributes to society.  Maybe they'll even help take care of you someday so let's let them learn and go through the hard stuff now so that life won't be as hard when they get older.  I sincerely appreciate all of you and your commitment to scouting and to our organization.  The first year is hardest and when you combine that with the pandemic we have all had to learn to adapt quickly.

Here are some things that have to be done before we go and what to expect.

  1. All Scouts and Leaders attending camp must have a physical examination before coming to camp and must have the proper medical form completed. The examination must be made by a licensed physician. Be sure to use the official BSA Annual Health and Medical Form and section A, B, and C need to be correctly filled out.
  2. Each family needs to be caught up on monthly dues for our organization.
  3. Each person needs to have their insurance card with them brought to the camp.
  4. Immunization exemptions form from the health department are needed if your vaccines are not up to date.  You'll need to list immunizations on health forms.
  5. Fishing equipment if you want to fish.
  6. Family night guests cannot arrive before 5pm on Thursday.
  7. Should someone at camp need to be contacted, the camp telephone number is (910) 866-4423. This phone is in the camp office and is manned during the day. If there is no answer, please leave a detailed message with a return number and a Camp Administrator will return your call within 24 hours
  8. We encourage you to send a letter on Saturday or Sunday so that they get it on Tuesday or Wednesday.  it can really help lift their spirits and you can really connect with them this way.  Scouts Name & Troop Number Camp Bowers 13165 NC Hwy 53 West White Oak, NC 28399
  9. We'll leave at 11 am from the park that we do scouts in.
We'll have some options for our group site that we can discuss on this Thursday.  All of the girls troops will be in our area and we can combine with them, section off our area, or do some sort of a hybrid.  We also might want to have Glen and Mister Ethan pull away farther from the girls or move to the next campsite over depending on how many adult leaders there are and how everyone is behaving.  We can talk about options on Thursday and decide more as we talk about things.  We probably won't have all of the information to make a decision until we get up there but we can at least talk about it.  Regardless of what options we take it should be a lot of fun for everyone.   They'll all make wonderful friends and have a great time.

Thank you for your time and attention to this information.  There will be more information given on this Thursday as to what equipment will be brought and finalizing food arrangements.  Look for another post on the outline for scouts this week.
